Consciousness Coaching
A focused kind of life coaching. Life coaching works on the life; consciousness coaching works on the one who is living it.

Most coaching helps you change what you do. This work looks at where you are doing it from: the awareness behind your choices, your reactions, and the stories you tell about yourself.
As awareness widens, things that felt like fixed facts about you start to look like habits you can hold more lightly. Insight arrives on its own schedule, and action changes without so much forcing. I call this way of living teliodosis: the integration of doing and being.
This work is hard to put into words, and it unfolds differently for everyone. These are some of the shifts clients describe.
- Old stories about who you are start to loosen their grip.
- You meet hard emotions without being swept away by them.
- You recognize the awareness that was here all along.
- You feel more at home in yourself, wherever you are.
- You hold on less tightly, and life flows more easily.
Life coaching is a wide space. Almost anything in a life can come into it: work, health, purpose, relationships, transitions.
Consciousness coaching is a focused path within that space, for people drawn to awareness, presence, and meaning. Whether we call it life coaching or consciousness coaching doesn’t really matter. It’s the same engagement, and in any given session we can go wherever you want to go.
- You have achieved much of what you set out to achieve, and you are quietly asking what it was for.
- A meditation practice has opened something you want to understand rather than just enjoy.
- You have had a glimpse, a moment of deep stillness or connection, that you can’t explain and don’t want to dismiss.
- You keep noticing synchronicities, meaningful coincidences that seem to be pointing somewhere.
- You are between chapters: a role, a place, a relationship, or an identity is ending, and the next one hasn’t arrived.
- You want a guide who is as comfortable with a spreadsheet as with silence.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences maps how consciousness tends to transform. I find the off-ramps as useful as the stations. Nobody walks this in a straight line. I certainly haven’t.
A noetic moment

Exploration
Trying practices with curiosity.
A practice
Going deep with one that resonates.
Life as practice
Presence in ordinary moments.
I to We
Growth that turns toward others.
I wrote about this model and my own place on it in “Elevating Consciousness.”
The foundation is the same as all my coaching: confidential, client-led, and held to the ICF Code of Ethics. On top of it, we draw on whatever serves you:
- Contemplative practice. Meditation in session when it helps, informed by my training in nondual meditation.
- Inquiry. For people drawn to it, direct looking into the nature of awareness itself.
- The body. Somatic awareness, noticing what you know before you can say it.
- Welcoming. Meeting whatever arises, a hard emotion or an old fear, with curiosity instead of resistance.
- Short moments. Brief moments of resting as awareness, repeated through a busy day, so presence isn’t reserved for the meditation cushion.
No belief system is required. For most of my life I called myself a child of modernity, and I still bring the engineer with me. Skeptics are welcome.
Like all my life coaching, consciousness coaching is typically a six-month engagement of 50-minute sessions. Some clients choose to meet fortnightly, others monthly.
We start with a free discovery conversation to see whether this is the right work and whether I am the right guide.
“Josh’s coaching presence is gold standard, full stop. I feel fortunate to have found him when I was not even looking.”
